Prejean Embroiled In Controversy Since Gay-Marriage Question At Pageant
LOS ANGELES -- Miss USA officials have said that Miss California Carrie Prejean has been fired.
Pageant organizer Donald Trump issued a statement Wednesday saying he sacked Prejean for failing to honor her commitments as Miss California USA. Prejean was the runner-up in the recent Miss USA Pageant.
She became embroiled in controversy during the Miss USA competition, where she was first runner-up, when she answered judge Perez Hilton's question about gay marriage by saying marriage should be reserved for men and women. "No offense to anybody out there but that's how I was raised," Prejean said during the pageant. Hilton took offense and ranted in text and video posts on his blog, and called Prejean "a dumb b----" with "half a brain" over her viewpoint.
Prejean also was scrutinized over purported topless photos of her that surfaced on the Internet.
Trump decided shortly thereafter that Prejean could keep her title. Wednesday's dismissal, the LA Times reported, came over "contract violations."
Pageant officials said Tami Farrell, the first runner-up to Prejean in the Miss California USA competition, will take over those responsibilities.
